ETC Conference 2011 - Glasgow, UK - 11-13 October 2010

ECTRI was official sponsor of the 2010 European Transport Conference-ETC. This Conference is unique in Europe, attracting around 500 transport practitioners and researchers to a meeting place, where they can find in-depth presentations on policy issues, best practice and research findings across a broad spectrum of transport modes. In total 33 papers were presented by researchers coming from the ECTRI networks.

   
 

INNOTRANS 2010, Berlin, Germany, September 21-24, 2010

InnoTrans is the world leading trade fair focusing on Railway Technology and in this context, a number of ECTRI Members partcipated in this event such as DLR, FhG and IK. C. Alméras , ECTRI was also present at this event.

   
 

12th World Conference on Transport Research-WCTR Lisbon, Portugal, was held on July 11- 15, 2010.

Several ECTRI Members participated in the 12th World Conference on Transport Research 2010. G. Giannopoulos from HIT gave a presentation on ‘Trans-Atlantic transport research collaboration: challenges and opportunities’ , N. Paulley presented «Transport knowledge databases - exemples and uses» and N.E. El  Fouazi from INRETS and ECTRI ITS expert group introduced ‘ECTRI, European transport research institutes working together - ITS related activities’.

   
 

Transport Research Arena 2010 - Brussels, Belgium - 7-10 June 2010

The Transport Research Arena 2010 (TRA 2010) took place in Brussels, Belgium, from 7-10 June 2010 around the theme «Sustainable Road Transport Mobility through Innovation in Europe». The event was organised jointly by the Conference of European Directors of Roads, the European Commission and the European Road Transport Research Advisory Council. ECTRI actively participated in various sessions and events.

   
 

International Transport Forum (ITF) 2010, Leipzig, Germany, May 26-28, 2010

Many ECTRI Members were present at the ITF conference in May 2010. Caroline Alméras, ECTRI Secretary General participated as well as representatives from AIT, BASt, CENIT, DLR, DTU, INRETS, KTI, LET, TOI, TRL, UPM, VTT. Several ECTRI Members namely, AIT, DVS and VTI were among the exhibitors.
AIT presented the ADOSE project while VTI together with other partners presented a few projects and introduced the start of a new governmental authority- The Swedish Transport Administration.

On May 26, Yves Crozet from LET was penalist at the Plenary outline on ‘Innovation in Transport: setting the scence’. On that same day, Johannes Reichmuth, DLR was panelist at the session ‘What is the future of Air Transport’.

   
 

15th International Conference Road Safety on Four Continents - Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates - 22-24 March 2010

For the third time since 2005, ECTRI was  officially co-sponsor of the Road Safety on Four Continents (RS4C) Conference.
As sponsor, ECTRI broadly disseminated information about the event, but is also involved in the preparation and management. In particular, ECTRI nominated several representatives to participate to the International advisory and scientific committees: Andrew Parkes, TRL participated in the International advisory committee; Fridulv Sagberg, TØI; Laurent Carnis, INRETS; Richard Cuerden, TRL; Juergen Rataj, DRL; Dieter Willersinn, Fraunhofer, in the the Scientific Committee. TRB 89th Annual Meeting - Washington, DC, USA - January 10 - 14, 2010

ECTRI actively participated in the TRB 89th Annual Meeting, held in Washington on 10-14 January 2010.

The following ECTRI representatives attended the event: Guy Bourgeois, President, Caroline Alméras, Secretary General, Joris Al, Board Member, DVS, The Netherlands - George Giannopoulos, CERTH-HIT, Greece - Cristina Pronello, treasurer, POLITO, Italy - Fred Wegman, SWOV, The Netherlands - Neil Paulley, TRL, United Kingdom - Andrès Monzon and Angel Aparicio, UPM, Spain - Dietmar Wurzel, DLR, Germany - Josef Mikulik, CDV, Czech Republic - Francesc Robusté, CENIT, Spain, and Jean-Pierre Médevielle, INRETS.

On January 10, G. Giannopoulos, HIT and Jorge Prozzi, University of Texasco-chaired the Workshop on ‘International Transportation Research Collaboration: Success Stories’, which included a presentation of the recommendations of the ECTRI-TRB report released in 2009. Later that same day, the authors and members of ECTRI-TRB WG 10 were awarded for their significant accomplishments and contributions leading to the publication of the ECTRI/TRB report: European-United States Transportation Research Collaboration: Challenges and Opportunities at the International Participants' Reception.

On January 11, the international Activities Committee met and J.Al, DVS presented an update of the ECTRI/TRB MOU, G. Giannopoulos gave the conclusions and next steps of the ECTRI-TRB report. The European Members of this committee are  Joris Al, Cristina Pronello, Neil Paulley, George Giannopoulos, Jean-Pierre Médevielle, Angel Aparicio and Barbara Lenz , all from ECTRI. On that same day, ECTRI representatives participated in the FHWA International Collaboration Luncheon Meeting.

On January 12, Olvier Klein, LET, France, presented a paper on ‘High-Speed Train Mobility in a Modern Economy: Lessons from the TGV's French Experience’ at the: Intercity Passenger Rail Intermodal Interface Subcommittee, AR010(1). This participation was the result of exchanges between ECTRI and TRB about the organisation of a special session on high speed train. Other ECTRI representatives were invited to the SHRP2 collaboration session. SHRP2 has the goal of improving safety, and advancing infrastructure planning, design, construction and operations.
